Sacred is a beautiful word.
Waiting is not so beautiful, either as a word or an activity.
Unless the event, like the birth of a baby, is really worth it. Then the wait becomes part of the event.
Advent is a short season that shares the beauty, and the ache, of sacred waiting.
You could say it’s a short celebration of God’s patience. God’s patience is his sacred wait, a holy space He saves for our repentance.
So each Advent we wait for the one who waits for us. And we adorn our sacred waiting room with lessons from Scripture and music inspired by the inspired text. We call this Advent Lessons and Carols.
This year, 2016, it is on Sunday, December 11, at 6:00 pm. Take an hour, join us for the beauty of this sacred wait. And praise the inspiration of words like these:
O Flower, whose fragrance tender
With sweetness fills the air,
Dispel with glorious splendour
The darkness everywhere;
True man, yet very God,
From Sin and death now save us,
And share our every load.
